Questions of the purpose of education with Norwegian teachers and the Norwegian subject as a case
My PhD project uses self-understanding and Bildung traditions as lenses to explore questions of the purpose of education. My project is a qualitative study, mainly building on interviews with Norwegian teachers in upper secondary schools.
I have a master’s degree in Norwegian language and literature, a post-graduate certificate in education, and experience from teaching in higher education. The post-graduate certificate in education made me interested in educational policy and teachers’ experiences and values. As a result, I developed a PhD project based on reflections I made during my time in school as a student teacher. I started as a PhD student at the University of Bergen in August 2016.
I was accepted as a NAFOL student for cohort 8 in January 2017. NAFOL has provided me with a solid network, both for research and socially. NAFOL has also contributed with important insights related to practice in research dissemination and provided challenging but helpful questions and practices.
