NAFOL profile: Lise Marie Wollan Porsanger

Lise Porsanger. photoRisk and safety management in physical education

I had my initial education in outdoor education and teacher training at the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences in Oslo followed by a master’s degree in Sport Sciences at NTNU. I have worked as a teacher in physical education and sports for eight years and as an outdoor adventure guide. I began teaching physical education teacher students at the Department of Teacher Education at NTNU in 2017.

In my doctoral project I am exploring teachers’ risk and safety management in school-based physical education programs. The project employs multiple methods to generate data including a survey questionnaire and interviews with primary and lower secondary teachers in Norway. Moreover, through a critical discourse analysis of regulative documents I have explored how the use of language constructs teachers’ risk and safety management in physical education.

The studies at NAFOL have both been useful and educational. With their support I have had the opportunity to present my work at international conferences, both in person and online, and I was able to conduct a research stay at the University of Hawaii in the beginning of 2020. I really look forward to further studies and cooperation with the NAFOL fellowship in 2021.
