Embedding the concept of praxis in early childhood teacher education

Anna Rigmor MoxnesAnna Rigmor Moxnes is a research fellow at Buskerud and Vestfold University College. In addition to being a research fellow she teaches pedagogy at the Department for early childhood teacher education. She is also a mentor for teachers. Anna has a background as preschool teacher. In her PhD study she is exploring tools for reflection in pedagogy, and how these tools work for student teachers during their academic studies to become professional practitioners.

This PhD project addresses, how students in early childhood teacher education internalise knowledge from theory as well as  from practice experiences. The topic is the importance of reflection as a pedagogical resource, and how students develop praxis stances regarding their future profession during reflections and discussions of theoretical themes.  Anna also wants to approach the issue, how higher education institutions facilitate reflection and critical thinking through the vocational studies. A special focus her is facilitation for reflection in groups, since the future work of the early childhood teacher is to lead professional development in groups in the kindergartens.

Short bio

Buskerud and Vestfold University College finances my PhD study. In addition to my PhD study I teach pedagogy for bachelor students and mentoring-competence for preschool teachers. I have been working as a preschool teacher in kindergartens for nearly 20 years.  Thus, the engagement in my PhD project is based in my own teaching and practice experiences from working with reflection in groups.
